An Overview
A strategic aim of our public policies is to re-instate an ethical distance between government and business …. how can the government regulate and control the excesses of the market economy if it is in bed with large corporations, and where politicians and political parties receive millions of dollars in ‘donations’ from the private sector?
It cannot.
To this end, our policies are designed to re-establish clear and unambiguous guidelines as to the roles of government and the private sector in the community and to act in the community’s interest and welfare where private corporations – especially monopolies – are taking unfair advantage.
The role of government is to: provide essential services for everyone; to regulate and monitor the private sector to encourage enterprise and build the economy for the benefit of all, and to make laws and guidelines to manage our impact on the environment.
The role of the private sector is to innovate, create, build, and compete in a genuinely free market.
When these roles become blurred – as has happened with governments of all persuasions all over the world over the past three decades – corruption flourishes, and innovation becomes replaced with cronyism and stagnant, monopoly control. A system worse than communism – corporate oligarchy.
The Motorists Party stands for the PUBLIC INTEREST in the face of corporate greed and powerful vested interests that seek to own our public assets, curb our freedoms, and increasingly control our lives.
We respect reward for individual effort, (communism just doesn’t work), and encourage people to take personal responsibility for their own health, wealth and life – but this cannot happen when huge multinational financial, pharmaceutical, mining, energy, agricultural, computer, etc. companies have increasing control over government decision making and society.
QUALITY OF LIFE is more important than the QUANTITY OF MONEY!
We will work to build a genuinely sustainable society and economic system and leave an enduring legacy for our children.

We will…
# First and foremost remain independent, honest and trustworthy – party officials and elected representatives are prohibited from accepting gifts or financial ‘donations’.
# End Tolls on Roads, and Keep Roads and Bridges in Public Ownership – our first priority being the removal of tolls on the Logan and Gateway motorways.
# Stop the sell-offs of our public hospitals, electricity generators, ports and other public assets.
# Reduce Congestion on our Roads by encouraging more motorcycles with reduced registration for motorcycles and dedicated motorcycle lanes on motorways; more emphasis on public transport; and more cycleways. We will also rescind the draconian, un-democratic LNP ‘Bikie’ legislation.
# Abolish Credit Card Surcharge Fees – stop companies such as hotels, airlines, Telstra, etc from charging extra if you pay by credit card, or for a paper bill, etc.
# Protect our civil liberties and the right to free speech and encourage participatory democracy by holding referendums on important social issues. Let the people decide!
# Strengthen animal welfare laws and enforcement by adopting the RSPCA’s ‘model Animal Care and Protection Act‘, which prohibits all forms of animal cruelty.
# Introduce a deposit scheme for bottles and cans to reduce waste and encourage recycling.
# No Nuclear Power – EVER! Remember Chernobyl and Fukushima – Nuclear power companies cannot be trusted.
# Re-forest Queensland. Reduce our carbon emissions by investing in the best ‘carbon capture and storage’ technology ever developed – trees – NOT in dubious, costly high tech schemes. Re-build our hardwood forest industry to create jobs and wealth for Qld.
